Nupritin-100 Capsules by Plena Remedies are labelled as containing Flupirtine Maleate 100 mg, a centrally acting, non-opioid analgesic that was historically used for managing certain acute pain conditions.
Flupirtine acts primarily through neuronal potassium channels, helping reduce pain signalling within the central nervous system. Unlike conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), its principal mechanism does not involve inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes.
Flupirtine was previously prescribed for selected acute musculoskeletal pain, postoperative pain and other short-term pain conditions. However, serious safety concerns emerged because of its association with severe liver toxicity, including cases of liver failure.
Due to these risks, flupirtine-containing medicines have been withdrawn or prohibited in several markets, including India. Nupritin-100 Capsules should therefore be listed only for historical product information, not promoted for current therapeutic use or sale in India.
