Prevention in at-risk groups — pregnant women, menstruating women with heavy periods, growing children and adolescents, vegetarians/vegans, and people after blood loss or surgery.
Folic acid deficiency — "XT" syrups usually pair iron with folic acid (vitamin B9), needed for red blood cell formation and, in pregnancy, for preventing neural tube defects.
